There are things in life for which I expect to garner a certain amount of pity. You may or may not feel sorry for me that I’m confined to crutches but damn it, when I call and tell you there’s a snake outside my front door, I expect a sympathy bouquet from 1-800-FLOWERS to show up, pronto.

And We're Back...

Time to blow the dust off this blog. But first, a quick peek into my life over the past 7 months. 

  1. I ran and went to the gym. 
  2. I went on some dates. 
  3. I worked. 

Okay, then. Good summary! Moving on. 

I'm kicking off my return to blogging with an announcement--I'm grounded. I was diagnosed last week with a stress fracture to my left femoral head. Not good.

One Thing A Day

I may not be busy, but my schedule remains robust. Because of this, there are days (most days) when I feel more controlled then enabled by the lists I keep of tasks and errands that need attended to.  Sure, some of them can maybe be skipped—the kitchen table doesn’t have to have a new centerpiece except if you saw it you would agree that yes, it does—but most are things that, sooner or later, need to get done.

A small example from the list I’m currently hauling around:

  • Call my bank because I entered the wrong password one too many times and am now locked out of my account
  • Take my car in to be cleaned
  • Replace the hand towel holder by my bathroom sink which requires paint and spackle
  • Trim the bushes around the patio
  • Go through the towering in-box by my desk
  • Plan visits...

It’s Not Worth It

With age, comes wisdom. Particularly the wisdom to know that time is short and spending our precious minutes and hours on things that don’t fulfill us is, well, a waste of time.

I get it. Beds must be made and laundry must be folded. (Yes, it must. Do not argue with me on this.) Life isn’t all fun. But over the years I’ve gotten better at discerning what’s worth my attention and what isn’t.

For example, a couple of months ago my company changed wellness providers. Our new provider sent us step trackers. If we log a certain number of steps each day, we can earn up to $1000 toward our deductibles and medical costs. Not a bad deal, right?

But not for me.
