Oh No! Bad Kitty!

Lucy has been bad. Very, very bad. I am seriously thinking of NOT giving her extra treats today. Apparently last night while I slept, Lucy commandeered my computer and--without my knowledge--sent a blog post to Christopher Laney at his life wisdom blog, Lessons From the Cockpit.

To see just how bad a kitty she's been, click here to read the post. Meanwhile, I am going to give Lucy_Cat a serious talking to.

That's a VERY bad kitty.

Paranormal Pets - Ghost Cat In My Bed

Hey everyone--here's a link to my interview on Pet Life Radio on their "Paranormal Pets" program. I spoke with host Dusty Rainbolt last week about the ghost cat that lives in our house. Laugh if you must, but ghost kitty exists. He/she makes sporadic appearances late at night, curling up at the end of our bed on my feet. You'll be able to learn all about it in the 5-minute interview.

FYI, Dusty's program is entertaining and I encourage you to listen to the entire show but if you're pressed for time and looking for my part, I come in around minute 9.

Here's the MP3 of the interview: Ghost Cat In My Bed.

Twitter Addiction

When I joined Twitter, the social networking application that has you answer the question, "What are you doing?" in 180 characters or less, I swore not to let it become a time-waster in my life. I joined Twitter under the moniker "Lucy_Cat," the idea being that I'd use Twitter as a marketing tool for Kiss My Kitty Butt and Lucy as the book's lazy, sarcastic book spokesperson.

That part worked fine. What I didn't count on was becoming invested in the lives and postings of the 180+ people/animals I now follow on Twitter. My day is no longer complete unless I know what BoogerTheCat and Dingowannabe are up to. (My favorite post of BoogerTheCat is when he said he enjoys hiding in the bushes because it forces his owners to stand in their front door and yell, "BOOGER!")

Darth Vader's posts are hysterical and there are several writers I follow and take comfort from when I read that edits or new writing is/is not going well.

Has it turned into a time-waster? Ummm... okay. Yes. But I scan quickly and limit my time to 5-10 minutes per day on the site. And I frequently walk away chuckling at some saracastic or insightful post. So all in all, I'd say it's worth it.

If you Twitter, follow Lucy_Cat and I'll follow (stalk) you in return.

Best Birthday Gift Ever

When it comes to giving gifts, people fall into one of two categories. There are the well-meaning but uncreative people like me who, while wishing to give a good gift, invariably end a shopping trip for a friend's birthday or graduation with a scented candle and a gift-card to Starbucks. I mean well, but I'm just not creative when it comes to gift giving.

Then there are people like my friend Kay. Kay is the QUEEN of gift-giving. She's the type of person that if you mention once, in passing, that you've always wanted to try rare macadamia nuts grown in Hong-Kong, flavored in Peru, and shipped from a tiny store in Maui, she will spend weeks tracking down those exact nuts to surprise you with on your birthday. Plus, she'll probably have had the growers sign the nuts and include a picture of their plantation where the nuts came from. She's just incredible that way.

Yesterday before our run, Kay handed me a bright pink bag stuffed with tissue paper and stated she was giving me a belated birthday present. Inside the bag was the coolest birthday gift, ever. A hot pink running sun visor with KMKB in fancy cursive font on the front. Get it? Kiss My Kitty Butt... the title of my upcoming book. Kay had read my blog where I'd mentioned (again, causally, in passing) that it would be cool to have Kiss My Kitty Butt fashion wear and she wanted to be the first to offer a piece of the coutre attire. I LOVE IT.

She also gave me a gift card to a gourmet chocolate shop and a hilarious card that shows a cat staring into a blender that holds water and three fish, and a furry paw is reaching for the "blend" button.

Chocolate, cat card, and cat-based fashion attire. Pretty hard to beat. I'm going to have to do some long, hard thinking for her birthday because a scented candle is just not going to cut it.
