A New Time Management System

Yesterday afternoon a friend and I were e-mailing back and forth. (I am irrationally proud of the fact that I don't text. E-mail is good enough for me. Why, in my day we had to walk uphill in the snow both ways just to send one e-mail...) He wanted me to know he was cutting back on his professional speaking engagements and devoting more time to writing. He mentioned he'd written the equivalent of three articles over the last 5 days.

This left me in the odd position of wanting to hit my dear friend across the face with a rotting grouper. It's not that I'm not happy for him. It's just that I've been struggling with my writing lately.

The Way To A Man's Heart: Sprouted Bread & Vegan Cheese?

There was a tenseness in the air last night as we sat down to dine. As I spooned food onto our plates, I swallowed against the lump of self-doubt lodged in my throat. Blair eyed his plate suspiciously. It was a do or die moment.

Let me explain. Years ago we discovered a "Beef Taco Bake" recipe on the side of a Campbell's tomato soup can. With a few adjustments - soy crumbles for beef, whole what tortillas for flour ones, and plain salsa for chunky because Blair was in his "I won't eat anything with chunks in it" stage - the recipe became a staple in our home. Gooey and satisfying, we shoved the tomato-cheesy-floury goodness down our throats at least once a week. It's quite possibly one of Blair's favorite meals.

One Hundred Pushup Challenge Check In

How we doin'? All my strong-armed readers who are pumping those push-ups out on a weekly basis - let's hear from you. Dad, Nicole, Melody, Kay, Nathan, Amy, Lisa... are you still with me?

This past week was my 3rd go round with week 3. There are three days of push-ups. Day 1 was... okay. Kind of getting back in the saddle. Day 2 was horrid. I did the required amount but arms were shaking and I'm not quite sure my last few pushups on each set were more than just a token bend of the arms.

Day 3, however, was redeeming. Good form, didn't feel winded and tired until near the end of each set, and managed decent form the whole way through. I think it depends on what kind of day you catch yourself on. Kay mentioned she does her pushups AFTER her track and tempo workouts. I can't begin to imagine having the willpower to do that. I do mine on track and tempo run days but I do the pushups early in the morning and give myself a good 5-8 hours before I have to run.

I'm not going to lie to you: Week 4 looks scary. Plus, there's a stress test at the end of the week where you do as many push-ups as you can to failure. I might do them with my trainer to keep me honest.

I've talked with a few of you about your progress, but still chime in and let the group (oh okay, and the world) know how it's going for you.

100 is getting closer....

Welcome to All You Can Eat Sunday

Hello and welcome to All You Can Eat Sunday.

Blair and I - after having successfully cut back our TV viewing to less than 3 hours a week - plopped ourselves on the sofa early this afternoon to watch "The Next Food Network Star" marathon and haven't moved in more than 6 hours. Well, that's not entirely true. We have left the sofa to forage for food. After spending a small fortune at Earth Fare this weekend on hemp protein, dulse flakes, coconut oil, unhulled seasame seeds, and gourmet greens, I spent the afternoon eating chocolate soy yogurt, peanut butter sandwiches, cereal, and leftover pasta.
