Moving Diaries: Light Up My Life

Now that we're a bit more settled in Barbie's Dream Home, you may be wondering how Blair and I are spending our time. Are we creating gourmet meals in the chef's kitchen? Snuggling in front of the fireplace? Planning the elaborate dinners we'll host?

Nope. We spend most of our free time trying to figure out light switches.

I have never seen so many light features in my life. The kitchen alone has eight switches. Eight! The other night I forbade Blair from turning off the counter top kitchen lights because the dishwasher was running and we weren't entirely sure which switch needed to remain on.

Moving Diaries: Recap

We spent time last night in the keeping room off the kitchen. We're here. It took everything but a plague of locuts to get us here, but we're here and we're thrilled!

ONE DAY PRIOR TO MOVING DAY: I call the moving company to confirm arrival time and the woman asks if I'd like to change over from our scheduled 2-day move to one day.

MOVING DAY, 8 AM: Ten movers show up on my doorstep. As I show them the house I point out the few things that still need packed. "Uh, we didn't bring boxes," said the crew chief. "We were told this was just a load job."

No boxes? Seriously? Okay, it is what it is and Blair and I can make a few trips and get the rest packed up. I set the guys free in the house and retreat to the kitchen with my laptop to get some work done.

I've been approaching my workouts for the last few weeks with trepidation, asking myself what it's going to take to pull me through. I'm drinking 1-2 cups of caffeinated coffee a day (I used to only drink decaf), usually before a workout in the hopes of "reving up." I'm not sleeping well. My concentration isn't there.

Diagnosis? Burnout.
